Don't Sweat It! {Homeschool Science Tip from Elemental Science}

Don't sweat what you haven't done, start with where you are and move forward.

It is super easy to get caught up in the could-have's, should-have's, and if-I-would-have's when it comes to life and homeschooling, especially around this time of year when we are forming our plans for the next school year. But doing so paralyzes us and keeps us from moving forward, which just compounds the problem.

So when I meet a homeschool mom at a convention who feels guilty about the fact that her kids haven't done any science to date, my advice is always the same.

"Don't sweat what you haven't done as you can't change the past. The thing to do is start with where you are and move forward."

If you find yourself in a place where you feel you are behind in science, or any other subject, here are the steps you can take to get back on track:

  1. First, take a deep breath and relax. You have realized the problem and that's a big part of the solution!
  2. Write down what you want science to look like moving forward.
  3. Research the steps you need to take to get to that place.
  4. Take action.

As you move forward with your plan, don't obsess about what didn't happen in the past. Instead, get excited about the future!
