Homeschool Science Tip of the Month - Set aside some time to take a field trip for science!

A field trip is an opportunity for you to get out of your pj's and disrupt your routine! Taking a field trip for science allows your students to:

• See or touch science up close and personal.
• Explore the topics you are studying in a deeper way.
• Have a whole lot of fun as you learn more about science.

The year we studied Earth Science & Astronomy for the Logic Stage we took a field trip we took to the Grand Canyon, Sunset Crater, and the Petrified National Forest. We have visited the Houston Space Center while on a trip and we always try to find the science museum in the town we are at when we head out to conferences.

I am not saying you have to travel halfway across the country, you can also look in your own backyard. We have visited local parks, businesses, and museums on our science field trips as well.

Right now, grab a pen and paper and write down the answers to these questions:

• Is there a hiking trail nearby that we could visit?
• How about a park, a bakery, or a museum?
• Is there someplace within an hour or so of our house that will allow us to see, touch, and maybe even taste science?

Once you have those answers in hand, set aside some time this month to knock one of those off the list!

Heading out for a field trip will break up your schedule and provide you with some fantastic memories.
