1. What is Elemental Science?

Elemental Science is a set of plans for the teacher to use as they guide their student through studying a specific area of science.  It also includes a student workbook so that your student can create a book about what they have learned.  You will need to purchase or borrow from the library the books that are planned as a part of the program and the supplies necessary to complete the experiments.

2. How is Elemental Science different than what’s already out there?

There are several features that are completely unique to our program.  First, we seek to follow the instructions laid out in The Well Trained Mind as closely as possible.  That means that we use living books, narrations and frequent experiments as a part of each of our programs.  Second, our student workbook is uniquely designed for each program.  Each workbook contains custom designed pages for the program with individualized pictures, narration sheets with space for each narration that is planned and experiment sheets for each experiment you do.  This means that your student will have all the tools they need to create a lasting memory of their studies.  Finally, each of our programs includes weekly quizzes to assess what your student is learning.  Although the ideal is to have the parent working with the student, we realize this is not always possible.  The quizzes will give you a tool to see if your student has completed their work and if they have learned anything during the week.

3.  What if I don’t follow The Well Trained Mind philosophy in my homeschool, can I still use Elemental Science?
Yes, you can!  The programs of Elemental Science each focus on an area of science for a whole year.  This is a beneficial way to study science no matter which homeschooling philosophy you follow.   Each program includes narrations and experiments which are time proven methods used in many homeschooling philosophies.  Elemental Science would easily fit into a Charlotte Mason or a Ruth Beechick style homeschool.

4. Is Elemental Science Secular or Christian?

Although I am a Christian, I have tried to write Elemental Science as non-sectarian.  I have done my best to write each program in a manner that focuses on the science being studied instead of a person’s religious viewpoint. This was an easy task for Biology, Chemistry and Physics. However, in the interest of full disclosure, Earth Science and Astronomy for the Grammar Stage does use texts that mention evolution and there is a suggestion of doing a study of creation in the teacher’s guide.

5. What ages can I use Elemental Science’s programs for?

Each of our programs stands alone, although they do increase in difficulty and in what they expect the student to complete.
Biology for the Grammar Stage: 1st through 3rd grade
Earth Science and Astronomy for the Grammar Stage: 1st through 3rd grade
Chemistry for the Grammar Stage: 2nd through 4th grade
Physics for the Grammar Stage: 3rd through 5th grade

6. Where can I get the additional living books that are a part of the programs of Elemental Science?

7. Does the author have a blog?
